Balco Medical Centre (BMC), Naya Raipur, recently marked a major milestone in its digital transformation journey with the successful go-live of its Oncology Electronic Medical Records (Onco EMR) system, aligned with the National Cancer Grid (NCG) framework. The initiative represents an important step towards enabling more standardised, coordinated, and technology-enabled cancer care delivery.
The event brought together over 70 clinicians, nurses, administrators, and implementation stakeholders, reflecting the institution-wide commitment towards adopting digital systems that improve patient care and operational efficiency. Prior to the go-live, multiple training sessions and workflow readiness activities were conducted to ensure smooth adoption of the system across departments.
The newly implemented Onco EMR system is designed to strengthen continuity of care by enabling seamless access to patient records across clinicians, departments, and care teams. By reducing dependency on physical files and minimising duplication of information, the platform aims to support more informed clinical decision-making and improve the overall patient experience.
The event featured addresses from leadership including Dr. Bhawna Sirohi, Medical Director, Vedanta Medical Research Foundation, and Mr. Omkar Nakade, CEO of Mednet. In her address, Dr. Bhawna Sirohi highlighted the importance of strong senior leadership commitment across stakeholders, noting that institutional support and collaboration are critical factors in the success of large-scale digital transformation initiatives in healthcare.
A special acknowledgement was also extended to Mr. Ruban Anandraj from the Koita Centre for Digital Oncology (KCDO), whose on-ground support and coordination helped ensure the smooth execution of the go-live event and implementation activities.
One of the key highlights of the event was the recognition of early adopters and active users of the EMR system. By facilitating these champions during the ceremony, the institution reinforced the importance of user adoption and encouraged others across the hospital to embrace digital transformation and contribute as changemakers in their own capacity.
The go-live at BMC reflects the broader vision of the National Cancer Grid and KCDO to build connected, future-ready, and data-driven cancer care ecosystems across the country. Through the adoption of structured electronic medical records and standardised workflows, institutions can strengthen interoperability, improve continuity of care, and support more equitable access to quality oncology services.
As BMC begins this new phase of digitally enabled care delivery, the implementation stands as an important example of how collaboration between clinical leadership, operational teams, implementation partners, and national digital health initiatives can drive meaningful transformation in healthcare.
